Taking out insurance while on a mobility programme at Sorbonne University means that you are covered both personally and professionally. Insurance provides support in case of illness, accidents or repatriation, protects you against damage caused to others and ensures that you can carry out your activities securely, both in France or abroad.

Health and repatriation insurance

This insurance covers your medical and hospital expenses in the event of illness or accident during your stay. It also covers the cost of repatriation to your country of origin if necessary (for example, in the event of a serious health problem). You must provide proof of this insurance to obtain your visa or residence permit.

Public liability insurance

This insurance covers you if you accidentally cause damage to another person or their property. It is often included in home insurance policies. If this is not the case, you can easily take out a policy with your bank, a student health insurance provider or an insurance company.

This insurance is compulsory if you are on an internship in France.

Supplementary health insurance (mutuelle)

This insurance supplements the cover provided by French social security system. It reimburses a proportion of medical, hospital or dental expenses not covered by the social security system, so you’re not too out of pocket. It is not compulsory, but is strongly recommended.

Professional insurance

If you are a researcher or lecturer, Sorbonne University automatically covers you against accidents that may occur during your research or teaching assignments. This means that you are protected if you are injured or cause damage in the course of your work.
